In the Fall of 2020, I sold my house that I had spent the last 8 years making a home I loved to do something I had wanted to do for a very long time. I bought a fixer upper. A fixer upper loaded with potential in so many ways. In the first few months of owning the property, I’ve made a lot of changes but I’ve got a whole lot farther to go.

 

Because I bought the house in late in the Fall, the weather turned before I could get much done outside, so stay tuned for those transformations later this Spring and Summer. In the meantime, let’s take a look at the kitchen…..

 

The Kitchen

These are before shots, taken directly from the real estate listing. The kitchen lacked any real space for a refrigerator, so my solution was to remove the closet containing the washer (relocated to the basement) and expanding the entire space for usable kitchen space. Here are the after photos…..

 

The one thing that I loved in the original kitchen was the vintage light fixture. I made sure to incorporate it into the new kitchen, just turned it to be centered over the worktable.

This is the area where the closet was removed. It makes a great baking station or even a good place to set up an informal buffet. On the wall behind the shelves, I enlarged one of my grandmother’s handwritten recipe cards and painted it directly on the wall.
