Who’s Coming to Dinner?
I’ve been feeling a little stretched thin lately in the creative department. That could be reason for a lack of consistent posts, but that’s just the kind of thing that happens…a creative slump. Last week I took a
“test” from Adobe to help determine my creativity type. It was kind of like one of those personality tests that so many of us have taken. It turns out I’m a “Visionary”. As I read the assessment, I was kind of floored by the spot on assessment from just a few quick questions. I’ve got a million ideas floating around in this brain and lately, I’ve been on a search to figure out how I’m supposed to be using these gifts I’ve been blessed with. How do I put some of those ideas into action and more importantly how will it benefit someone?
I’ll admit, that I often think of myself as NOT a people person, but I’ve been feeling this sort of “calling” if you will, to bring people together. I think I have an underlying need to help show people that despite different backgrounds and beliefs, at the heart of us, we are all just the same. But what does that look like? How do I bring people together in a creative way, that facilitates thoughtful discussions, that helps people discover their shared similarities, to help people appreciate their differences all over a shared experience?
Well, what I know more than any other thing is that food brings people together, that I love food and I love to host dinner parties.
I have a vision of a group of people, most who have never met one another, sitting down at a long dinner table and enjoying each other’s company, learning and teaching each other, making new friends, no phones, just real face to face conversations.
So, here’s what I’m thinking. As many of you know, I have a small company called “Housewarmed” that does interior design consulting. I’ve long wanted that company to represent more than just the stuff that goes into a home, I’ve wanted it to speak more to the people that make a home. I’d love to get some of your thoughts about “Housewarmed Gatherings”. I imagine anything from a quaint, dinner of small plates, to intimate dinner parties to something else altogether, all with some sort of “experience” involved. Locations could range from someplace totally unexpected to a new restaurant, to a private home. I’m working on a questionnaire to help figure out logistics and how it might all work, but in the meantime, I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas. Send me a quick note with your thoughts here.
If you’d like to take the creative type test, you can do that here.
